Type Locality and Naming
Synonym:
Lithology and Thickness
It comprises a lower sequence of conglomeratic sandstone, sandstone and mudstone overlain by muddy limestone and lenticular limestones. The upper part of this formation consists mainly of massive limestone, but changes laterally to calcareous sandstone or mudstone (Ehiro I989. 20l5).

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The Kanokura Fm (the type of the Kanokuran Series) in the Setamai district rests conformably on the Sakamotozawa Fm
Upper contact
Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next younger unit as Kowaragi Fm

Fossils
Various fossils such as fusulinoideans, corals, brachiopods and molluscs have been reported from the Kanokura Formation (e.g., Minato et al.,1978), allowing Choi (l973) to establish three fusulinoidean zones: the Monodiexodina matsubaishi Zone (lower part, which has also yielded Cancellina), Colania kotsuboensis Zone (uppermost part of the lower) and Lepidolina multiseptata Zone (upper part).
